Tips to reduce or eliminate hair matting in the nape of the neck
Have you ever wondered if there were good tips to follow in order to reduce or eliminate the matted, frizzy hair in the nape area?
Yes, it seems like a simple fix, but this question is asked over and over again by many wearers of wigs and hair extensions.
Why it tangles badlyin the nape of the neck:
- Wearing a necklace
- Sweating
- Friction
- Wrong comb method
so we’ve compiled a list of 9 tips that will help you fight the frizz and make your style last much longer…
1. Use black band instead of the wig combs to secure the lace
Many wigs are offered with wig combs in the nape area. They are added for security, however, much of the hair in the nape area gets caught in the combs.
Modify your wig by removing the combs and using a black band to keep your wig in place.
2. Use a Styling Tool Specifically Designed for Wigs and Extensions
A plastic or rubber comb will collect negative charges on its surface and produce static in the hair. Use a styling comb or brush that is specifically designed for wigs.
If a plastic comb or brush is used, lightly spray the tool with an antistatic agent such as Static Guard before styling to create a barrier to repel the static.
3. Finger Comb and Detangle Your Hair Periodically Throughout The Day
Long hair tends to bunch up around the nape area when wearing necklaces and large collars and sweating.
Finger comb and detangle your hair periodically throughout the day to reduce hair collecting in the affected area.
4. Avoid Excessive Exposure to Heat
Avoid subjecting your wig to excessive amounts of heat. Use extreme caution when around hot ovens, stoves and grills. The excessive heating will make human hair being dry, then easy to tangle.
Also avoid extreme amounts of sun and a heated neck (sweat).
5. Silky Fabrics are Best and Avoid Fibrous Fabrics and Material
Silky fabric and clothing will allow the hair to glide effortlessly without snags, friction and static
6. Add Heaviness to the Nape Area by Adding an Extra Hair Weft
Adding an extra weft to the lower section of the nape area will weigh the hair down, thus restricting excessive movement across the back.
7. The Application of Hair Oil
Flip your hair and “lightly” add oil to your strands.
8. Thoroughly Detangle the Hair at the End of the Day
Free your hair of all tangles before retiring at the end of the day. It is suggested that your wig is removed each night. However, if you are not able to do so, detangle your hair, pull it up into a high clip or bun and sleep on a satin pillow case.
9. Good Ole’ Bobby Pins… They Are Handy as Ever!
This simple little trick will drastically reduce the tangling and matting and extend the life of your hair and extensions.
• Lift the hair in your nape area
• Part out a ½ inch across the bottom section
• Raise the parted section and pin it up into the loose hair
Not only will this stop the matting, but it will create volume and a light bounce to your hairstyle.
10. Using your iron for slight frizzy hairs. It is very easy to do before you leave for a party or a trip
